This page describes the editorial standards behind every guide on Bestgeneratorstoday: how we choose topics, how our content is produced, where our information comes from, and how we handle updates and corrections. It works alongside our How We Review page, which explains how products are scored.
Editorial independence
Our recommendations are not for sale. Manufacturers, retailers, and brands cannot pay to be included in a guide, to move up in a ranking, or to have a product left out.
We earn revenue through affiliate links, mainly as a participant in the Amazon Associates program. When you buy through one of those links, we may earn a commission at no extra cost to you. Commission rates do not influence which products we include or how they rank. Our Affiliate Disclaimer has the full details.
How we choose topics
We cover the questions generator shoppers ask most often: which type of generator fits a given job, how much power is enough, which fuel makes sense, and which models deserve a closer look. Topics are chosen based on what people search for and where clear, organized information is hard to find.
How our content is produced
We use AI tools to produce our content. Each guide is compiled from multiple publicly available sources found through search engines, including:
- Manufacturer specifications, manuals, and product documentation
- Retailer product listings and owner reviews across several retailers
- Published safety and emissions standards, such as those from UL, CSA, EPA, and CARB
- Recall notices and safety guidance from the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC)
AI helps us gather, organize, and summarize that information into a consistent format, and every product is assessed against the same criteria described on our How We Review page.
We do not purchase or handle physical units, and we do not run our own product trials. When a claim comes from a manufacturer, we present it as the manufacturer’s claim, not as an independent finding.
AI tools and public sources can contain mistakes, so a specification or model detail may occasionally be inaccurate or out of date. Before you buy, confirm the details that matter most to you, such as running and starting watts, outlet types, fuel options, noise ratings, and EPA or CARB compliance, on the manufacturer’s website or the retailer’s product page.
Sources and prices
We favor primary sources, such as manufacturers, standards organizations, and government agencies, over secondhand summaries. Prices change constantly, so we do not list prices in our articles. Check the retailer for the current price and availability.
Safety
Generators carry real risks, including carbon monoxide poisoning, electric shock, and fire. Our guides are general information and do not replace the owner’s manual, local building and electrical codes, or a licensed electrician. Never run a fuel-powered generator indoors or in an attached garage, and follow the CPSC generator safety guidance. We do not provide legal, medical, or financial advice.
Updates
We revisit guides when products are discontinued, replaced, or recalled, or when new information changes a recommendation. Each article shows when it was published and when it was last updated.
Corrections
If you spot an error, email us at [email protected] with the article link and a short description of the problem. When we confirm an error, we correct the article and update its last updated date.
